Arising from the merger/absorption of Jabouley Biais and Alpha-Biais in 2007, the family business AJ Biais became the leading producer of textile accessories for many companies in the textile industry in France, Europe and worldwide. Here is a rundown of the backgrounds of the two original companies and their committed development with the creation of AJ Biais.
Background
JABOULEY BIAIS
1890
Joseph Jabouley and his wife created the ribbon weaving company Manufacture JH Jabouley & Cie.
1950
Henri & Joseph Jabouley, the third generation to manage the company, imported from the USA an innovative technique for cutting ribbon: on the bias.
1960
a new product was manufactured in the company: trouser waistbands
1970
launch of the bra hook business which enabled the company to develop the market of bra manufacturers
1990
the fourth generation of managers at Jabouley, represented by Dominique and Philippe, guided the business towards external growth and developed small-scale dyeing, particularly in the Ribbons and Corsetry department.
2005
three entities were created: Jabouley Bias (Bias binding and Belts and pocket divisions), Jabouley Corsetry and Jabouley Ribbons
ALPHA BIAIS
1986
Jacques Brunon created the company in Saint-Just-Malmont. It had 4 employees.
1998
the Alpha Biais Tunisia production subsidiary started near Monastir
2003
the Alpha Vies production subsidiary was launched near Porto (Portugal)
2005
in collaboration with Jabouley Biais, a subsidiary was opened in Shandong province, China; Bietex and Alpha Vies merged to create A Vies in Portugal

sales and production were combined on the Saint-Étienne site
2014
Custom’it ®, a brand of thermobonding products for haberdashery and creative leisure crafts, was created
2015
the Jabouley brand moved into waistbands and pocket fabrics for trousers; AJ Biais took over La Bordure Française thereby adding PVC and PU trim and high frequency sealing technology.
